I had a great time shooting Courtney yesterday... Even though I'm on vacation, I've been working around the clock to finish up client orders to deliver when I get home - so it was an awesome break to take some time with Courtney (my husband's niece) and explore Hendersonville, NC. We found some great places and I love the shots we ended up with....of course, with a subject this beautiful, how could you go wrong?

Child Cancer Fund - 2009 Premier Wine Extravaganza {Charity}

This was a hot charity event...I mean, really hot, like in the 90's and in October!! So it made it even more amazing to see all the people that turned out for the First Coast Premier Wine Extravaganza benefiting the Child Cancer Fund. For a mere $50, each participant received a wine glass and gained access to hundreds of different wines. Premier Wines of Jax graciously donated all the wine for the evening.

Turtle Trails 2009 {Charity}

This was a really cool charity event to shoot for...it was held at the Jacksonville fairgrounds on Oct 3rd. You might have seen these painted turtles around town...each had it's own theme and artist and every single one of them was a true work of art. They were then auctioned off with the monies benefiting The Child Guidence Center.

This last week has been a very sad one for my community. Last Monday we all watched and waited for the good word that 7-yr old Somer would be found after having not returned home from school. Sadly, we learned that her little body had been found on Wednesday. I watched as her momma's world was shattered into pieces, not being able to fathom an ounce of what she was feeling. I've watched my small community where I've lived for the past 30 yrs, come together in a way I have never seen. People coming out to help a stranger, doing whatever they can in any small way. They just want to help carry this burden of this mom and let her know that she's not alone.

I created this necklace and tile for Diena, Somer's mom. "You are my sunshine" has been reported as one of Somer's favorite songs and how appropriate to have it with her shining face to remember her by.

I'll be dropping this off later tonight along with a note written on the back of the tile. I want Somer's mom to know she's been on my heart all week and that I admire her strength and I am so terribly sorry...

Sweet Baby Jack...

I've known Emilie and Eric...for, I don't know, like forever? I was so excited when they contacted me to do their family photos. Sweet baby Jack didn't so much as whimper the entire shoot, even after I moved him a bazillion times trying to get his sweet face in a shot. He worked his little tongue like mad...and grinned up a storm when his daddy made silly noises (so did those around us in the park...). I enjoyed working with you guys! Enjoy...

Who knew that good help could be obtained by a bag of gummy worms? That's what it took to keep Aidan performing long enough to get some shots. I love that Tricia and Alex wanted to use Alex's new car in their shots - he's worked so hard for this reward and cars happen to be a mutal hobby of theirs. I love when clients bring their own props :) Enjoy!!

...I shouldn't have favorites...but this family secretly is one of mine. They are some of the coolest, most funnest people I've ever had the honor of meeting. I keep up with them on Facebook and am always excited to see where their next adventure is (like Disney for mom's bday where she wore a gown, a tiarra and a sash and her dudes dressed up like Pirates. I mean, how cool is that?). Ellen - thanks for always having a word to make me laugh right when I need it! Enjoy... Oh, p.s. Pancreatic Cancer Purple Stride - Saturday, September 12

I had the priviledge of shooting the Purple Stride fundraiser for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network on Saturday at the Jacksonville Beach pavilion. They had a 4 mile run and then a 1 mile walk/fun run. It was amazing to see all the family members honoring their loved ones. I put this quick slideshow together - I apologize for the distortion in some of the pics, Smilebox got kinda funky on some of them.

...but I can't help myself when I look at my boy. When I see that he's given his future to going where he's told...to protect those he's never met...and to trust that someone will take care of his needs - it makes me want to shout from the street - that is MY boy.

Chase has been home for a week on leave and has 3 more days until he leaves for Mississippi for combat training. I am so proud of this kid. I am thankful that he was given a second chance in life and he took it and is making it count.

He just got this new tat on Tuesday. Not minutes after he was off the plane for leave, he was already showing me these words on paper and how they meant so much to him.

...ever been at a random place....and in hindsight, you know you were suppose to have been there - at that very moment?
I was at a city park yesterday doing a Senior's pics...it was a total last minute stop. While we were there, this young lady approached me and asked if I could snap a pic of her and her dad together. There was something about the way she asked, that I couldn't say anything but "Of course!". After I took a few, we exchanged info and I was on my way....
...but when I got home and opened the images, I was so moved. It's something I can't explain. That 2 minutes with a complete stranger has touched me in a way I couldn't have imagined....I am hoping to learn more of their story....(these are used with her written permisson - on the back of a Post-it note)

I love that we never know what part we're going to play sometimes.... I had the wonderful last minute opportunity to meet and work with this family Friday night. They were on a 'round the world trip back to Ireland after having just left China where they met and feel in love with their new daughter, Shauna. I love her little face and the story it will tell. She is a very loved little girl. I am so glad I had a chance to meet her.

When I was thinking about what I wanted to accomplish this year...one thing kept coming back to me.

I want to give and I want that gift to make a difference.

I have been very active in a couple different volunteer venues, but with my heart now closely tied to the military...I was drawn to that cause by an organization called Operation Love Reunited.

OpLove is a group of photographers from all over with one goal: to help those in our Military and their families with the difficult transition of being deployed or to celebrate with them in the homecoming of their heros.

Each photographer works on a volunteer basis and provides, at their own cost, a session with the family and an album that is delivered to the military loved one while stationed overseas. If it is a hero that is coming home, an album is also given so that time of the homecoming can also be remembered.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, then I urge you to visit their website http://www.oplove.org/ and contact a photographer in your area.

For those that are serving and those caring for the home while your hero is away - I thank you.

Happy New YeaR...and all that jazz!!

I've taken some time off to get through the holidays, come up with some new stuff and most importantly, get my oldest off to Navy Bootcamp.

Chase leaves next Tuesday morning, January 20th (isn't there something else small going on that day too??!!) for Great Lakes. After bootcamp (about 8 weeks), he'll start on his career as a Navy Diver. It's been a tough road, but looking at him now and knowing that I'm dropping him off a kid and going to gain a man, makes it all worth it. My fear and apprehension has turned to pride and excitement.

I'll be back with up and running in a week....and look forward to seeing you then!

I needed a little extra "umph" for this tile to complete the mood but searched high and low and couldn't find just the right thing....Then I remembered our new pup, Daisy, chewed up one of my brand new Steve Madden wedged sandals and whala!! I had rope for my "designer finishing touch" on this totally cool and unique tile.

My Granny

Today my Granny passed away.

She had a tough year but bounced back more times than anyone could imagine.

But that was her.

She didn't like sweets much (that was her favorite line), but the truth be known, she was the original Dairy Queen. The woman liked her ice cream and Turtles candies.

I think we got more entertainment out of her and her dentures than all of the toys that Amanda and I ever owned.

I remember this one trip we went on, she was in the back seat with Amanda and I, and she had her hair in curlers and we'd pass cars and say "Do it, do it" and she'd look all crazy out the window at the passing car and stick her dentures clear out at the people in it. We'd all die laughing and wait for the next car.

I'll miss you Gran. Thank you for reminding me to live with no regrets and to love with no limits... for my tomorrow will come too.

Congrats to Erin, the winner of the "Showers" photo contest! Erin's winning photo is featured in this handcrafted soldered charm necklace. She chose the Swavorski crystal pearl necklace as her beads and I adore the second photo she picked as the back of her charm!

When I was thinking about what to get you for Mother's Day, there's only one thing that kept coming to mind -- actually 3 things that, to some, would seem way over due...but in my growing old wisdom, I see that they are actually, right on time.

See, the first thing I give to you is an grown up apology. I believe we can't truly understand the affects of our actions until we experience the pain ourselves. Much like we tell our kids, "learn from my actions and mistakes", they don't understand that until they defy us and find out for themselves. I can now empathize with you the heartache I caused you. I can now say, "Mom, I understand and I'm sorry" and I truly mean it because I've experienced it.

The second thing is a sincere thank you. Thank you for doing what you felt you had to do, for doing what you thought was the right thing to help me. I certainly didn't understand at the time, nor for a while, that your actions was your way of trying to help and save me......from myself. I can now only understand and truly appreciate you for what you have done. Thank you.

Lastly, I want to give you a true I love you. You are a remarkable person. You give until you have nothing else to give and then you still find a way to give more. You are creative beyond all means and never settle for mediocre. You never allowed me to want and always (and still do) give me more than I deserve.

I know I fail when it comes to communicating all this and showing you....but I'm glad you are my mom and I'm proud to be your daughter.

We have a little bird family that has been building nests on and off for a while now...we watching them fly to the preserve and then back up to the tv cabinet on the back porch carrying stuff to build a nest...well here is the product of their lastest project. (Photos by my son, Chase)

The Gift of Giving

One of my favorite places to donate my time is The Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless in downtown Jacksonville (http://www.sulzbachercenter.org/). They have the most wonderful staff and I am honored to be a small part of the amazing work they do.

On Saturday, March 15th, 2008, they held their Second Annual "Walk a mile" fundraising walk. With the help of several hundred walkers, they were able to raise over $42,000 for the center!!

I donated my time and talent as a photograher and spent the morning capturing some awesome smiley faces, however, mine was the smiling face when I opened a card yesterday from the Center that they had sent out and saw that one of my photos were on the cover. I am truly honored!!

I am again truly blessed to be a part of an awesome organization!
